Collaborators

Subhankar Banerjee works closely with conservation and indigenous human-rights organizations to help preserve the ecologically and culturally diverse areas of the American Arctic. His Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and Teshekpuk Lake Wetlands images were used extensively by members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives, environmental and indigenous human-rights organizations in preventing legislation that would allow oil drilling on these sensitive areas. Banerjee collaborates closely with members of the following organizations.

GWICH’IN STEERING COMMITTEE Founded in 1988 to provide a unified voice by the Gwich’in people of Alaska and Canada to protect the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Porcupine caribou that migrate there. The Gwich’in rely on the caribou to meet their essential physical, cultural, social, economic, and spiritual needs.

REDOIL  Resisting Environmental Devastation On Indigenous Lands. A network of grassroots Indigenous activists in Alaska confronting oil and gas exploration.  Formed in June of 2002, the alliance includes Alaska Natives of the Athabascan, Inupiat, Eyak, Yupik, Tlingit, and other peoples. They have allied to address aboriginal, economic and environment justice issues concerning the role of corporations, the state of Alaska and the federal government in oil and gas development.

ALASKA WILDERNESS LEAGUE The only environmental organization working full-time in Washington, D.C., to protect the Arctic Refuge and other wild lands in Alaska.
